Fasting - When and Why
As many of you know, I've put a huge effort in over these past 10 months on my fitness journey. Since November 2025 I've lost over 3 stone in body fat and gained muscle along the way.
These past 4-6 weeks I've noticed I've hit a bit of a plateau, which is exactly why I'm now introducing fasting.
I've done early-evening to late-morning fasting before, but never really given it a proper go. This time I'm committing to it.
My new weekly fasting routine
Friday 6pm till Sunday 10am - the long fast - 40 hour fast, once a week
Monday to Thursday, 6pm till 10am the following day - the short fast - 16 hour fast, four times a week
Why?
The main one is simple: calorie control, keeping myself slightly in a deficit.
But the science goes further. After a number of hours without food, the body burns through its stored sugar and then begins to burn fat for fuel. It also lowers insulin levels, which helps the body access fat stores more easily.
On top of that there are cellular repair benefits - a process called autophagy, where the body clears out and renews old cells - and plenty more besides.
You are never too old to start a fitness journey. And trust me, as someone living that journey right now, it's well worth the effort.
Start today for a healthier tomorrow.
