Look how far
we have come
We opened our doors on 5 September 2005, with two of us and a lot of building work — and some of the members training here today were with us from the first week.
The doors open
Four thousand square feet over two floors, and most of the work done by the two of us who opened it.
Knocking through
The wall came out to make room for the free weights floor. Props, rubble and an awful lot of dust.
Walls going up
Block by block, by hand, in the evenings, around the first few machines.
The first weights in
Racked, numbered and ready. It felt like a lot at the time.
The name goes up
Lit up over the door on Calf Hall Road. That was the moment it stopped being a building site.
A proper floor
Filled out, plates everywhere, and busy from six in the morning.
Kit worth travelling for
Life Fitness and Hammer Strength going in, a piece at a time, as we could afford them.
Still adding to it
New benches and new machines. Nothing here has stood still for long.
Where we are now
Three rooms, a sauna, and the doors open every hour of every day. Still adding to it.
And the newest thing we built is not a machine
Every key, every day pass, every question — run by software we wrote ourselves. Not so the office is tidier: so you are through the door in seconds instead of days.
